Winner of the "Donor's Award of Excellence" at the Oil Painters of America National Exhibition 2010. Held at Legacy Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ.
The painting started with the vise. Beautiful old vice we found in a barn when we moved a few years back. Richard wanted to contrast the vice, so he put an egg in it. He kept breaking the eggs, but finally got one to stay. He realized just one more turn would crack the egg. He was playing with the hammer and had to tie it up to get it in the right position. So he used some of the tools in the tool shed to make it work. The candle creates anticipation of action and the string provides tension in the piece. People love to look at it and figure it out. They love the textures and relate to the everyday items. It is a painting that inspires conversation and smiles.
