Doug Adams ~ Riverwood Designs
Doug Adams Metal Sculpture
Artist Statement and Bio:
In November of 1980 as a young man seeking fortune Doug started working for a large steel mill in northern Utah.
Doug was entranced by the process of taking recycled scrap metal from its simple form and making a new useable product. From the 65 ton electric arc furnaces Spewing out molten steel into a large Ladle to the continuous caster where a billet of steel weighing 1.5 tons is cut into 25’ lengths in preparation for reheating and rolling into a bar of angle, flat, rounds, rebar or any of Dozens of marketable shapes.
The work is Hot, Dirty and often times dangerous to perform as Doug’s Body can attest.
Now after 29 years Doug’s passion for creating unique one of a kind Metal sculptures using many of the same techniques and processes he has become so familiar with in the industry are now made manifest in his Artistic endeavors, Making a sculpture out of old found objects and persuading it to succumb to the tools and the will of the artists hands is the challenge that Doug has thrived on in his work, Items that might end up in junkyards or farmers backyards are all potential art objects in waiting. In many Asian cultures the combination of stone & steel is considered (ZEN) or good fortune. That is why you see the stones so prominently displayed in his beautiful work. Many of them are from faraway places that Doug has visited. Doug’s sculpture has won acclaim in homes and Business’s and most recently took top honors in the sears Invitational for His work Titled “SOLAMERE”
From Contemporary tabletop and freestanding abstract sculptures, to his beautiful Signature garden bells with their unusual and eye catching Designs. Doug’s work is truly one of a kind.
His work can be viewed in Juniper Sky Fine Art Gallery in Kayenta’s Coyote Gulch Art Village, St. George, Utah, Goldenstein Gallery in Sedona Arizona, The Rare Gallery in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, the Coda Gallery in Park City, UT. And also the GVG Contemporary Gallery in Santa Fe, NM.
Doug is inspired by his very supportive and accomplished Artist Wife Dianne Adams who’s masterful watercolor Paintings have influenced many to greater heights. Doug also attributes his success to his Heavenly Father who has given him So much.
